The Spice Girls' odds of bagging the 2012 Christmas number one have been slashed following their performance at the London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony.

The event saw Geri Halliwell, Mel C, Victoria Beckham, Mel B and Emma Bunton perform two of their biggest hits, 'Wannabe' and 'Spice Up Your Life'. The fiesty five-piece arrived into the stadium in a selection of branded black cabs for their first group performace in over four years, to the delight of millions of spice fans worldwide. Both tracks have now entered the iTunes Top 200 chart.
Following the show Ladbrokes have now dropped its odds on the Spice Girls getting this year's festive chart-topper from 66/1 to 25/1.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: "We reckon the Christmas number one bets for the Spice Girls were more in hope than anything else. It would be silly of us to completely rule out a comeback after that performance however."
Odds on the group announcing a formal reunion are now 10/1, while the girls are 20/1 to record new material in 2012.
The Spice Girls who open their official musical 'Viva Forever' in Novemeber can be backed for as short as 3/1 to perform together with their full lineup before the end of the year.
