The two Academy Award winners will star in the HBO film Behind the Candelabra, based on the life of Liberace and his gay lover.

Action star Matt Damon, best known for his role as Jason Bourne, was spotted in full 1970s attire, including a feathered blonde hairstyle, as filming started on HBO’s ‘Behind the Candelabra’. Matt Damon is playing Scott Thorson, the younger lover of Liberace, the famous American pianist.

He will star opposite Michael Douglas, the 67 year old actor best known for his Oscar winning performance in Wall Street back in 1987. Douglas will play the flamboyant Liberace, who had a five year relationship with Thorson between 1977 and 1982, despite a 39 year age difference.

The romance ended due to the pianist's sexual promiscuity and Thorson's drug addiction, which led him to contract Hepatitis C. When the relationship ended in 1982, Thorson filed a $113 million lawsuit against Liberace. But in 1986, the pair reportedly settled out of court for $95,000, two cars, and two pet dogs.

Thorson later reconciled with Liberace on his death bed, where he died of AIDS in 1987, and a year later published the book Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace on which the film is based.

The HBO film is directed by Steven Soberbergh, who is known for his work on the Ocean's Eleven franchise and this year’s Magic Mike.
